Our members are real youth with real issues. Many youth today face homes of domestic violence, parents that work too much hours and are hardly ever home, tremendous peer pressure, etc. Our non-denominational, non-profit Christian youth ministry was formed in order to provide alternative solutions to help youth deal with a variety of problems. Some of our youth have shared the following…"I keep writing my father but he doesn't want anything to do with me." "I saw my best friend get stabbed right after school". "My mother's suing my old school...the security guard raped me." "My parents don't make time to check my home work; much less come to my school for anything". We keep youth active and doing God's work while having fun. With a variety of activities, there’s very little time for youth to sit around and mope about what's not right in their lives. In addition to ministry activities, we also teach abstinence from sex (until marriage) through lectures, plays, videos and visits from HIV-positive patients. We also provide and encourage contemporary gospel music as an alternative listening for our youth. Some members now refrain from listening to music with explicit lyrics. Instead we help youth focus on… Developing their talent and gift of performing. This often enables them to become confident and outgoing. Developing leadership skills. Most of our talent instruction is conducted by youth members. Learning basic production skills such as video camera operations, audio engineering, and stage directing Attending Bible studies to teach our youth that no matter what their problems might be, God and only God can solve them. Many parents report a drastic increased in Bible reading and a decrease in sexual promiscuity and poor behavior. Participating in workshops given by volunteers on drama, sign language, mime, dance, etc Volunteering in the community by visiting and ministering to the sick at homes, hospitals, nursing homes, and homeless Shelters. Fellowship activities such as Gospel Skates, swimming, picnics, socials, bowling, beach trips, Christian plays dealing with teenage social issues, and even Disney World vacations. Improving school and home behavior. Parents often see marked improvements
in school grades with our members averaging a 3.0 GPA Members also benefit from…Completion of community service hours (This is a high school graduation requirement) Assistance with resumes and job seeking skills. Travel experiences. We have performed in The Washington Metropolitan Area, Delaware, West Virginia, New Jersey, New York, etc. Parent and youth mediation, as necessary. Cross training of other talents. A stepper, for example, will teach a mime how to step, etc. Free counseling for some youth through local government agencies. Annual awards ceremony to reward our youth for academic excellence and talent contribution to the ministry. Each year a member & student of the year is selected. |
